They say if you do not recognize history and understand it you are destine to repeat it.
Well the Detroit Lions did it again! And really it’s my own fault, I should have known they’d pull the rug out from under me and I’d fall flat on my face.
I spent this morning on the WDFN Tailgate with Adam & Ryan waxing poetic about how I’m buying into this Lions team. I was so sold that Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn had me believing it’s going to be different this time around.
Man, am I dummy or what?
Not even six hours later I feel stupid for buying in and I’m pissed off I had to watch the Lions get housed by the Seattle Seahawks, 28-14.
The Lions were dominated in all three phases of the game from the opening kickoff.
Matt Stafford and the offense had issues holding onto the ball, running the ball and catching the ball. Mid way through the third quarter the Lions abandoned the run because it was ineffective, and they found themselves in a massive hole. The pass game wasn’t much better as Stafford was over throwing his wide outs or in Golden Tate’s case just dropping the ball.
The Seahawks had a field day running on the Lions’ front, picking up 176 yards on 42 attempts. This past week the Lions went out and spent a 5th round pick on Damon Harrison, who had an ok day, but he didn’t make the impact on this team we thought he would. Seattle’s quarterback, Russell Wilson, also had an incredible day picking on the likes of Lions’ cornerbacks Nevin Lawson and Teez Tabor. Wilson only threw the ball 17 times completing 14 of those passes for 248 yards - he chunk played the bananas out of the Detroit secondary for 14.6 yards a completion.
Not helping the lame Lions was their special teams’ unit that seen Ameer ‘Captain Baby Hands’ Abdullah have a costly fumble when he tried to bring the ball out on a kickoff. Three plays later the Lions trailed, 13-7, and Seattle never looked back.
But wait it gets better, on a 4th & 8 from Seattle’s own 3-yard line, they faked a punt and picked up 9 yards. The Lions couldn’t even cover a punter in his own end zone.
What a difference a week makes, last week I felt like the Lions had some traction and were progressing in the right direction, now I feel like its just the Same Old Lions.
