The Detroit Lions tried to fill their vacant kicker position in the 2014 NFL Draft, with the 7th round selection of Nate Freese.

The Boston College kicker was 70 for 81 for field goals in his career, and 111 for 114 in extra points.

But so far in his professional career, Freese is just 3 for 7 in field goals and has missed a field goal in all three games this season.

On Monday morning, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reported that the team will released Freese, and plan to bring in Alex Henery to be their next kicker.

Henery was the kicker for the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons.

The Lions brought Henery in for a workout last week, along with Rob Bironas and Garrett Hartley, but did not make a move. Bironas died Saturday night in a one car crash, at the age of 36.
