Near the end of spring training, Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said that he would use reliever Michael Lorenzen as an offensive player on days he couldn't pitch.

It came to fruition Thursday, when Price brought Lorenzen in to pinch hit in the 6th inning against the Phillies.

The strategy worked:

It was the first pinch hit home run for the Reds since 2015.

Lorenzen, who played center field in college, actually views himself as a true "two-way" player.

So far, so good.
