For the first time in 60 years, there's a new Catholic church being built in Cuba. The construction is being funded by St. Lawrence church in Tampa. Supporters say the new church as well as a refurbished synagogue in Havana shows Cuba has made some progress in religious freedom since Fidel Castro's communist revolution in the 1960s. At that time Atheism was made the belief system for the island nation.
However, in 1992 Cuba became a secular state.
